"The Smoky Mountain Cabin Raffle was created as an innovative way to raise significant funds for children and mentors," says Robin Myer, Executive Director. "We are thrilled to present this Smoky Mountain Log Cabin as the Grand Prize of our raffle. It's a beautiful cabin in the mountains overlooking one of the country's most spectacular views. Raffle participants can give back while also having the exciting chance to win a beautiful custom log cabin in the Smoky Mountains."
"Some kids wait more than 9 months to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister stated J. Clarkson, Director of Development for Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC. "It takes time to recruit, screen, and train a caring adult to be a "Big" and the funds raised from this raffle will allow us to dedicate more staff to that effort and still give professional support to the mentoring relationships already in place. In the end, this means more children will have the opportunity to experience the difference that a Big Brother or Big Sister can make."

Finding Log Home Rental Special Offers

Finding values for your next vacation is a priority for many travelers. Log home vacation rentals are no exception. Here are a few tips for finding special offers and values for your next log home rental vacation:

  1. Last Minute Travel - Log home rental managers and owners experience last minute vacancies and are eager to fill them, especially during their high season.
  2. Off Season Travel - Choosing vacation dates outside of the high season is nearly a sure bet for a value opportunity.
  3. Just ask. The lodging industry has experienced a downturn during this recession and many owners and managers are very eager to get your business. Once you have selected a desireable log home rental, simply call or email the owner/manager and ask them what kind of special offers are available or what their lowest available rate is.
  4. Log Home Gallery listings provide special offers (where offered) on each listing so check back often for specials from your favorite locations.
  5. Newsletter Sign Ups - Many log cabin and log home rental websites offer a page with their special offers so look for a newsletter sign-up, or bookmark the specials page and check back often as deals are likely to be posted as managers and owners try to fill last minute vacancies and/or cancellations.
  6. A simple browser search for terms like "log home rental specials" or "log cabin special rates" are sure to return some valuable links. Remember to include your desired location in your search term to help narrow down your search engine results to include relevant information.

Buying a Log Home Out of State

A common sentiment we hear at Log Home Gallery is from buyers searching for a second home away from their home state. Finding the right builder or the right real estate agent, along with the best price, and with so much inventory to choose from, where should you start?

A logical first step for many is the Internet. Over 80% of buyers start their search on the Information Superhighway. But with so many websites and so much inventory, how can you know a good opportunity when you see one? Most buyers have a general area in mind for their second home, which is a good start. Try these tips:

Regional websites can really help narrow down your search. By learning more about the flavor of the area, it is very likely you will stumble onto some ideal leads and contacts. For example, Florida halfbacks specializes in helping Florida residents find log homes and cabins for sale throughout the Blue Ridge and Smoky mountain areas. Another resource would be to search for the Chamber of Commerce, Visitor's Center, or Tourist Development Bureau in your desired area. Peruse these sites and look for real estate agents who are involved in their community; they will pop up regularly on these local community sites. Or visit ActiveRain, a website for interacting with real estate agents. Search for an agent in your community and read their blogs to find out how well they know your desired neighborhood.

Often times builders will offer a discovery weekend for potential buyers to get a feel of the land, the homes, and the community. For example, the Headwaters at Banner Elk offers a two night Discovery Package for just $199 per night plus tax for stays Sunday through Wednesday OR $229 per night plus tax for stays Thursday through Saturday in a luxurious three bedroom, three bath villa.

If snagging a good deal is your primary goal, visit RealtyTrac; a website that highlights foreclosure property. It is a bit of a challenge to really get to the information you need, but combining information from RealtyTrac along with finding an ideal real estate agent is likely to get you in your new log home so you can relax, enjoy, and decorate!
